7 - 10 year olds

The years of a child's life between the ages of 7 and 10 provide plenty of opportunities for us to teach them about self control-a skill they will need if they want to be able to avoid peer pressure in the future. Although they look like miniature adults, kids at this age really struggle with acting impulsively. A great way to teach self control and resisting strong urges is to model these behaviors.

Another opportunity to teach is through the daily struggles of homework. By letting them decide when to do their homework (right after school, before dinner, or after dinner), giving them a spot to do it, and letting them work on their own. We as parents are teaching our children to set priorities, keep their word, and follow through on things that need to be done.
